The King's Cave gets its
name from Robert the Bruce as he is believed to have used it en route to
taking the Scottish crown in 1314. The gate at the front of the cave may be
locked to avoid vanalism. You can get to the cave via the coast after
Blackwaterfoot Golf Course or from the Forestry Car Park on the Machrie -
Blackwaterfoot road.
It also has older associations with Finn, the
legendary hero of Gaeldom.
The main cave has some ancient rock carvings
and lesser caves in the series are known as the King's Larder, Stables etc.
