Baptisms (records begin 1688. This combines records found by Mrs. I.M. Fleming of Edinburgh in 1974, and by Jim Steel of Kilmarnock in 1983.)
1 Feb. 1689 William Cuthbertson and Isobell Biggart had a lawfull son baptized, John 19 June 1693 William Cuthbertson and Isobell Biggart his spouse had a daughter bapt. Elizabeth 10 Mar. 1695 William Cuthbertson and Jean Rae his sp. Had a l.s. baptized, James 24 April 1697 Adam, l.s. to William Cuthbertson was born, and baptized the 2 of May 1697 (Mother probably Jean Rae, probably Adam the “Coalier”) 21 Dec. 1700 Hugh Cuthbertson s. lawfull prcreat betwixt Wm. Cuthbertson and his wife Jean Rae was baptized. 1 Feb. 1702 David Cuthbertson s.l. to Wm. Cuthbertson and Jean Rae in Casesyde was baptized the s’d day. (in other places Calsysyde) 30 Apr. 1704 Thomas Cuthbertson s.l. to Wm. Cuthbertson and Jean Rae his sp. In this parish was baptized. 27 Oct. 1706 Mairy d.l. to Wm. Cuthbertson and Jean Rae in Buntinhill. 2 Oct. 1713 Barbara d.l. to James Cuthbertson and (blank – Marion) Morrison. 29 Dec. 1720 James Cuthbertson and Margret Lindsay had a l.d. born 29 Dec. 1720 and was bapt. Jan. 13 1721 called Barbara. 11 Sept. 1721 Adam Cuthbertson and Jean Mortoun had a l.d. born 11th and bapt. 17th called Elizabeth. 1 April 1723 Adam Cuthbertson and Jean Mortoun had a l.d. born ye 1st and baptized 14th april called Isobel. 2 April 1724 Adam Cuthbertson and Jean Mortoun, l.s. James. (died young) 19 Nov. 1724 James Cuthbertson and Margaret Lindsay had a l.d. born and was baptized ye 19th called Margaret. 15 Aug. 1725 James Boyd and Elizabeth Cuthbertson, in the paroch of Kilmarnock, had a lawful daur. B. 13th Aug., baptized 15th called Margaret. 22 Jan. 1726 Adam Cuthbertson and Jean Morton had a ld.d born 22 and baptsed Feb. 20 called Jean. 22 Oct. 1727 James Cuthbertson and Margaret Linsey had a l.d. born 22, baptized 22 Oct’r called Janet. 28 Feb. 1729(7) James Boyd and Elizabeth Cuthbertson in the paroch Kilmarnock had lawful son b. Feb. 28. Baptized in March, called James. 28 Feb. 1731 Hugh Cuthbertson son lawfull to James Cuthbertson and Margaret Lindsay baptized. 31 Mar. 1734 Grizell Culbieson dau. lawfull to George Culbieson in the town of Kilmore, baptized. (no more Cuthbertsons seen by researcher, Mrs. I.M. Fleming, to 1750. Up to here the writing is very difficult and sometimes mothers’ names are not given. Mrs. Fleming did not look for Cuthbertson mothers. The researcher continued with Baptisms 1750 to 1760 but no Cuthbertson fathers/sons showed up during that period.) 9 May 1751 James Tod l.s. to John Tod and Marrion Cuthbertson in Braehead. 28 Nov. 1751 Barbara Muir d. to William Muir and Barbara Cuthbertson. 6 Sept. 1753 Isobel Muir dau. to same. 22 Sept. 1754 James Wallace s.l. to Thos. Wallace and Janet Cuthbertson in? Lochross (illegible) 10 Nov. 1754 Margaret Alison d.l. to Wm. Alison and Margaret Cuthbertson in Laigh Burnside. 28 May 1755 Mary d.l. to John Tod and Marion Cuthbertson was bapt. The 28 may 1755. 28 Aug 1757 William Allison, s.l. to William Allison and Margaret Cuthbertson in Liagh Burntonhall. 16 Sept. 1759 William Alison, s.l…. (same as above), born on 9th. 4 Nov. 1759 John Wallace, lawful son to Thomas Wallace and Janet Cuthbertson in Bellsland was born 34d, baptized 4th…. 29 Nov. 1761 Thomas Wallace and Janet Cuthbertson in Bellsland had a son, bapt. 29 Nov., called Hugh. 20 Jan. 1765 William Alison and Margaret Cuthbertson in Laigh Burtonhall had a l.s. born January 15, 1765, bapt. 20th called Andrew. 23 April 1765 Thomas Wallace and Janet Cuthbertson in Shaw ?? had a daur. Born April 23 and baptized by the name of Barbara
Marriages (records begin 1693, up to 1750) 11 Nov. 1693 William Cuthbertson and Jean Rae parishioners hath given up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage and hath consigned two dollars, one of them a leg, and they were married Nov. 29. Their penalty is paid January 25. 27 April 1695 John Smith and Mary Cuthbertson both I this parish hath given up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage and hath consigned two leg dollars of penalty. (28 Feb. 1696 This penalty is given up.) 3 June 1698 The s’d day William Cuthbertson son to William Cuthbertson in Calsysde, gave up his name to be proclaimed in order to marriage with Margrat Smith, daughter to Thomas Smith in Schaw, and consigned two full dollars. 8 Sept. 1698 the which day Wm. Cuthbertson and Margrat Smith were married. 2 Oct. 1703 The which day Will: Cuthbertson, younger, and Janet Boyd both in this parish gave up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage and consigned their two full dollars. And were married Oct’r 24th. 28 Nov. 1708 William Cuthbertson in this parish and Sarah Boyd in the parish of Kilmarnock gave up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage and consigned their 2 dollars in Allan Brown’s hand. (see Kilmarnock, his 4th marriage) 20 Nov. 1714 Wm. Cuthbertson and Margaret Dunlop did give up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage and consigned their penalty. 8 Jan. 1715 James Culbertson and Margaret Lindsay both this parish did give up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage and consigned their money. 29 Oct. 1720 Adam Cuthbertson and Jean Mortoun both in this parish gave up yr names to be proclaimed in order to marriage and were married Dec. 8. 9 Aug. 1722 Hugh Cuthbertson and Jean Gilmour both in this parish etc. and were married August 29. 25 Oct. 1728 Adam Cuthbertson in this parish and Marion Morton in the parish of Kilmarnock gave up their names etc. 5 Jan. 1734 The which day Robert Tod in this parish and Janet Cuthbertson in the parish of Stewarton gave up their names etc. 20 Nov. 1738 Hugh Culbertson and Agnes Auld both in this parish gave up their names etc. Jas. Pow and George Orr gave Bill for the penalty. 9 June 1739 James Cuthbertson and Marie Walker both in this parish gave up their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage and gave Bill for penalty. They were married the 28 June. (The first marriage of J.C. of Mosside, the maltster. She died circa 1756.) 14 Feb. 1741 William Muir and Barbara Cuthbertson b. in this parish gave up their names, etc. and gave Bill for penalty. Married 4th March. (Believed to be the daughter of Jas. C. & Mgt. Lindsay.) 19 Sept. 1741 John Smith in the town and parish of Kilmarnock and Jean Cuthbertson in this parish, etc., etc. and gave bill for the penalty. 31 Jan. 1747 William Cuthbertson in this parish and Euphan ross in parish of Kilmarnock gave in their names etc. Married 20 Feb. 1747. 24 Feb. 1749 John Cuthbertson and Jean Barr Both in this paroch….gave in their names etc. (done to 1750, early pages faded and hard to read.) C. & Mary W, 1739?) 25 Aug. 1758 James Culbertson & Janet Templeton (marriage also listed at Dreghorn, Aug. 29, 1758) 14 March 1761 James Cuthbertson and Elizabeth Cuningham Note: “Leg dollar” = a silver coin of the period, some of which had this name because of the design. This deposit was repaid eventually unless the couple defaulted in any way. Cuthbertsons in Kilmaurs United Secession / United Presbyterian Register (from transcription by Jim Bundy) (Note that these records are not for the parish kirk, but for the non-established Secession/U.P. association. The Secession church at Kilmaurs was formally founded in 1740, but sprang from a schism in the established congregation dating back to 1712. Some of the early records are still being transcribed. This Kilmaurs association was the earliest Secession congregation in the area, and drew folk from surrounding parishes for many years.)
